- Vasant Ritu lasts from Mid-March to Mid-May. It includes the months of Chaitra and Vaishakh. It represents “The King of all seasons”.
- In this season, the earth looks lovely & charming when new Leaves and Flowers bloom on the trees. The air can carry pollens which leads different allergies like sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and congestion.
- The Climate is warmer which Liquify the Kapha Dosha in our body. It can reduce the fire (Agni) in your digestive system and cause disorders.
- During this, body state is as below -
- Body Strength- Low.
- Digestive Fire- Weak.
- Dosha- Aggravates Kapha Dosha.
- Skin- Becomes Dry & Dull.
What to Eat?
- Bitter, Pungent, Astringent, Dry & Light Food.
- Cereals like Rice, Wheat, Gram Flour, Old Barley.
- Use Ginger, Garlic, Onion, Cumin, Turmeric, Coriander in meals.
- Buttermilk with Jeera powder.
- Use Honey.
- Use different Asavas/Arishtas (Ayurvedic Preparations).
What to Avoid in Food?
- Newly Harvested Grains.
- Milk & Milk Products.
- Cold drinks, Cold water & Ice-creams.
- Heavy, Oily, Sour, Sweet, Cold & Refrigerated food.
- Repeated eating or Overeating.
What to do?
- Early to Bed early to Rise.
- Daily Massage (Abhyanga) with Medicated oil (Sarth Abhyang oil), which improves circulation, muscle strength, reduces aches and pains, relaxes the body & mind.
- Exercises like Yoga, Suryanamaskar, Brisk walking, or Running keep you warm and fit.
- Udvartana – Apply Body scrub which is a combination of several herbs like Keshar, Agaru, Haridra or Sarth Ubtan (Body scrub).
- Vaman is the best Panchakarma for Detoxification of kapha dosha.
- Nasya, Anjan, Kawal & Udwartanam are beneficial in this Ritu.
What to Avoid?
- Late night sleep and Day sleep or Excess sleep
(Day sleep is allowed only on empty stomach).
- Awakening at night.
